Mothers always worry when they’re away from their children. They may worry even more, when their children are alone with their father. Will they burn the house down cooking popcorn? Will he send them to school looking like clowns? Will they be eating nachos or peanut butter sandwiches for dinner every night? The list goes on-and-on.
Any parent who has ever had their child in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), knows how terrifying it is. The joy of giving birth to your newborn, and the contrasting pain of not being able to take them home, is all emotionally exhausting. However, The March of Dimes made things a little less heavy-hearted this Halloween season at a Kansas City NICU ward.
Kids can be ruthless. I’m sure just about all of us can remember a time when we were picked on or made fun of at least once in our lives. However, there are some children that receive much worse treatment than just a few jokes at their expense every now-and-then. Khoudia Diop, a 19-year-old model from Senegal, unfortunately knows that treatment very well. She has had to deal with bullying her entire life, due to the color of her skin.
Children are creative geniuses, really. Many of the children and their forms of artwork are unfortunately undermined, because we only look to one standard of beauty, oftentimes. However, one dad has done the exact opposite and it’s garnered a lot of attention from around the world. This dad shares photos his 6-year-old son draws, and then uses Photoshop to make them look like real-life creatures, on Instagram. Take a look! These are incredible, albeit sometimes hilarious! 1) Suddenly, I’m a lot less frightened to go in the ocean!
Liesbeth Ton is an illustrator and greeting card designer, hailing all the way from the Netherlands. Liesbeth is the mother to three children, and her comics illustrate the various hurdles she has to overcome as a parent. To celebrate her 10th year of being a mother, she has collected her best works and published them. We’re sure you’ll get a hoot out of them! 1) How many bathrooms did you have to pass to determine you were too scared to use them?
Elizabeth Climo is a talented illustrator, created these amazing illustrations of Halloween-themed cartoon animals. Her comics are simple, but adorable and entertaining. They illustrate everyday problems that animals may face, should they interact with one-another the way us humans do. When she isn’t drawing her animal cartoons, Climo does work as a character artist and storyboard revisionist for a little show you may have heard of: The Simpsons. Genius, and they don’t even have to dress up to do it!
