Alzheimer’s disease is one of the strangest and scariest things out there. Though it affects more than five million American citizens, we really know very little about it. The exact cause of Alzheimer’s has yet to be pinned down, and, obviously, we don’t yet have anything approaching a cure for the disease.
People suffering from Alzheimer’s lose their memories, and lose the things that really make them who they are. Late stage patients may forget their closest friends and family members, or they may lose the ability to communicate, like the man in this video. On an ordinary day, and in ordinary circumstances, this man can no longer speak.
Alzheimer’s has so affected his brain that he’s lost that ability. But that doesn’t mean that something can’t get to those deeper parts of him that still retain a strong sense of memory. Certain bonds, or at least, a certain bond, can bring out some of the man that normally doesn’t get to see the light of day. This man’s connection with his dog does just that!
